Diarrhea is a watery stool occurring more than three times in one day followed by changing in feces form from solid to liquid. In general, diarrhea is a light disease, but it can be more serious especially to infant. Because of that, this research was done to know whether the infusion of salak gading (Salacca edulis Reinw.varr) fruit, which contains tannin as an active substance, with and without its epidermis has an obstipancia effect.
It was done to white male mice DDI descendant with 20-30 gram in weight using protection method to diarrhea by Oleum Ricini. All 40 mice were divided by 8 groups randomly with 5 mices each. Group I used as a negative control was given with aquadest, group II used as a positive control was given tannin, group III was given with 2,5 g/kg BB dose of salak fruit without its epidermis infusion, group IV was given with 2,5 g/kg BB dose of salak fruit with its epidermis infusion, group V was given with 6,25 g/kg BB dose of salak fruit without its epidermis infusion, group VI was given with 6,25 g/kg BB dose of salak fruit with its epidermis infusion, group VII was given with 12,5 g/kg BB dose of salak fruit without its epidermis infusion and group VIII was given with 12,5 g/kg BB dose of salak fruit with its epidermis infusion. The data which was got from Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Levene statistic then continued with one way Anova testand LSD experiment with 95% trust level are consistency feces, diarrhea frequency, when diarrhea happened and the heavy of feces.
The result of this research showed that the infusion of salak fruit without its epidermis with dose 6,25 g/kg BB and dose 12,5 g/kg BB have an obstipancia effect to the mices, while the infusion of salak fruit with its epidermis with dose 12,5 g/kg BB decrease the activity of obstipancia to the rats.
