Liver is an important organ which executes the main metabolic proces in human body. Liver disease that commonly found in society is jaundice. Traditional medications are commonly used for this disease considering that it is cheaper and has no side effect. Research on traditional medication, using temu putih, has been held in order to prove the hepatoprotective effect of boiled-water extraeted temu putih to carbontetrachloride.
Wistar furrow white masculine mice, weight among 100-150 g, age 2-3 month, was used forthis research. 25 mice was divided to five groups. The first group was treated with destilled water (P.O), once a day for the first and the second day of treatment and carbontetrachloride (P.O) in the third day. The second group was treated with destilled water (P.O) once a day during two days and paraffin in the third day. The rest of groups were treated with boiled-water extraeted temu putih,31, 5; 63; 126 mg / kg body weight once a day during two days. In the third day, rest of the groups were treated with carbontetrachloride 2, 8 ml / kg body weight.
Blood samples were collected from the whole groups, 48 hours after carbontetrachloride treatment through the eye. GPT activity of blood samples were determined. Data was statistically analyzed. Kolmogorov Smirnov test showed that data was normally distributed while Levene test showed that data was not homogen then followed by Kruskall – Wallis test and Mann – Whitney Test because significancy level was les than 0,05. Histopathology data of the liver cell were descriptively analyzed and quantitatively analyzed with Wilcoxon test. The result of this research shows that boiled-water extraeted temu putih, dose 31, 5; 63; 126 mg / kg body weight exhibited protective effect forward hepatotoxicity caused by carbontetrachloride.
